Police fire tear gas shells to disperse protesting students

Police fire several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse protesting pro-Telangana students who indulged in stone-throwing and violence at the Osmania University campus in Hyderabad. Tension gripped the Campus as students tried to take out a procession with the body of the student who allegedly committed suicide yesterday.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, a bandh being observed in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. The Student Joint Action Committee of Telangana Universities has called for the bandh demanding the resignation of MLAs from the region following student's suicide. <br/><br/>The all-party JAC has extended solidarity to the bandh demanding the centre to announce a clear time-frame for carving out Telangnana State. Our Hyderabad correspondent reports that road commuters are facing severe hardships as the state Road Transport Corporation has suspended its services in the region.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Congress has condemned the student violence that broke out at the Osmania University campus in Hyderabad. Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters that a broad consensus can be arrived at on creation of a separate Telengana state only after peace returns to Andhara Pradesh.<br/>In reply to a question, Mr Singhvi said the government is taking steps to curb the price rise.<br/>
