Police clash with Maoist protesters in Nepal

In Nepal, over a dozen Maoists activist including lawmakers and four policemen were injured in clashes between the Maoists and security forces as the Maoists encircled Singha Durbar- the main government secretariat including the office of the Prime Minister in Kathmandu today as a part of its anti-government protest.<br/><br/>Police sources said the clashes broke out as the Maoists activist tried to enter prohibited areas, while Maoists alleged that police tried to use force on peaceful protesters. Clashes took place at the southern gate of the Singha Durbar as the protesters pelted stones at the police and security forces retaliated by baton charging and firing tear gad shells. <br/><br/>Chairman of the unified CPN (Maoist) Prachanda who leading today's protest rally in Kathmandu said his party will organize more aggressive anti-government protests if their demands were not fulfilled after the second phase of agitation. He however, expressed confidence that the current political stalemate would be resolved soon through dialogue among the political parties.<br/>
