Police arrest 23 people in connection with Mumbai violence

23 people have been arrested today in connection with the violence near Azad Maidan in Mumbai in which two people were killed and at least 55 injured. The city police said that all the accused were today produced in the local court and the court remanded them to police custody till 19th August.

Meanwhile, joint police commissioner (crime) Himanshu Roy said that the crime branch has started the probe and completed the Panchnama today. He also informed that the crime branch would probe if any inflammatory speech was made by the organisers of the protest rally at the Azad Maidan and whether the vandalism was pre-meditated.

The city police said that the situation is normal today and heavy police deployment has been put in place.
