Pol parties object to FDI hike in Defence, Railways

Political parties have objected to the government's decision to hike FDI in railways and Defence. Trinamool Congress demanded a discussion on the issue in the House. Party MP Derek O'Brien said, Parliament is in session and government is subverting democracy by allowing FDI in these two critical sectors through an executive decision.Talking to reporters outside Parliament House on Thursday, Congress MP Rajiv Shukla said BJP, during the UPA rule, was a staunch opponent of FDI, but it has now taken a complete u-turn by pushing through FDI.Responding to criticism of Cabinet decision by opposition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said the FDI issue was discussed in Parliament and clarifications were sought. He said it has already been cleared while passing the Budget. The government has decided to increase FDI in defence to 49 per cent and that in railways to 100 per cent.
