Poaching declines substantially in Kaziranga

In Assam, rhino poaching in the world-famous Kaziranga National Park has come down drastically compared to last year. This was the result of the strict vigil maintained on the miscreants by the forest guards and massive awarness drives launched by authorities in and around the villages along the National Park. Official sources said, as many as 13 one-horned rhinos of the park were killed by poachers for their precious horns this year. 23 rhinos were killed in the park by poachers last year. According to latest census, a total of 2,100 rhinos are found in the National Park. The Kaziranga Park has also been brought under the National Tiger Project. The park is the home of over a hundred Royal Bengal Tiger besides quite good members fo leopards and big cats. Among them, eight tigers have died in the park this year.<br/>
