In Assam, a female Rhino was killed and its precious horn chopped off by poachers at the Burhapahar Range of the famous Kaziranga National Park on Monday night. This is the second such incident of poaching of Rhino in recent past in the National Park. The Director of the Park Suresh Dutta told AIR Guwahati correspondent this morning that a massive combing operation has been launched by security guards in neighbouring Karbi Anglong hilly areas to apprehend the culprits. According to latest census reports, Kaziranga is the home of around two thousand two hundred one-horned Rhinos. It may be recalled that the State Government has raised two new forest battalions to check poaching and preservation of animals in the National Parks and other wildlife sanctuaries. Assam has at present five National Parks and 18 Wildlife Sanctuaries.
