PNB fraud scam : SC defers hearing on a PIL seeking court-monitored SIT probe

The Centre today opposed in the Supreme Court a PIL seeking an independent probe and deportation of jeweller Nirav Modi in the alleged 11,400 crore rupee Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. ”””Attorney General KK Venugopal told a bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, that he was opposing the PIL on various grounds, including that an inquiry had started after the FIR was registered in the case. The bench said, it won't say anything on the matter now and listed the matter for further hearing on the 16th of next month.””The PIL, filed by a lawyer, has made PNB, RBI and the Ministries of Finance and Law and Justice, parties. It sought a direction for initiation of deportation proceedings of Nirav Modi and others preferably within two months. The plea also asked for a special investigation team to probe the case.
