Enforcement Directorate has sought revocation of passports of billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi and his business partner Mehul Choksi in connection with the PNB scam. Officials said the ED has written a letter to the External Affairs Ministry in this regard. <br/>Enforcement Directorate yesterday conducted searches at several places linked to Nirav Modi in Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat, and seized diamond, jewellery and gold worth 5,100 crore rupees. The raids came after the agency filed a 280-crore rupees money laundering case against Nirav Modi, his wife Ami, brother Nishal and Mehul Choksi on Wednesday, following a complaint by Punjab National Bank. <br/><br/>Five properties belonging to Nirav Modi and the other accused in Mumbai were sealed by the agency. The ED has filed the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after going through a CBI FIR registered early this month. It is understood that the ED also went through the PNB complaint that was made out against Nirav Modi and others. <br/><br/>The agency will probe if the defrauded bank funds were laundered and these proceeds of crime were subsequently used by the accused to create illegal assets and black money. The ED has enlarged its probe to look into the charge of fraud of 11,400 crore rupees.
