Prime Minister's SVANIDHI scheme for providing micro-loans to street vendors to sustain their livelihood has attracted a large number of street vendors including women in the Union Territory of Puducherry. One of the beneficiaries explains how useful the scheme is to her. "I am Suguna, a street vendor in the Nellithoppu area. I have received rupees ten thousand as a loan under PM Svanidhi. It was very useful to me. If I had gotten the amount from private money lenders, then the profit would go for interest alone, and I wouldn't be able to repay the principal amount. As the interest rate is less in bank loans, we can repay the principal amount also. Repayment of the loan on the due date would fetch us further loan of rupees 20 thousand, then 30 thousand. It is very useful to me. I, on behalf of all street vendors like me, thank the Prime Minister for this scheme."
