PM’s high level meeting discusses ways to tackle soaring inflation

A high level meeting convened by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday took stock of the situation arising out of the rise in food prices and discussed ways to tackle inflation. The discussions on the issue will continue within the government to chalk out the strategy to check the rising food prices.The meeting came in the backdrop of Food inflation soaring to over 18 percent with prices of vegetables, milk, egg and meat registering a sharp increase. Tuesday's meeting was attended by the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Economic Advisor to the Finance Ministry Kaushik Basu.
