PMO: Govt incurs no expenses on Sonia’s visits & medical treatment abroad

Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today clarified that Government has incurred no expenses on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s foreign visits and medical treatment abroad. Divulging the details on Twitter, the PMO said that the reports quoting an expense of 1880 crore rupees on Sonia Gandhi's foreign visits and medical treatment abroad are untrue and misleading.

The PMO further clarified that the Government has not borne any expenses for Sonia’s medical treatment abroad and in India. It also said that during the last 8 years only one trip to Belgium was undertaken by Mrs Gandhi at the invitation of the Belgian Government to receive a national honour. It was paid for by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The total cost was less than three lakh rupees.

AIR correspondent reports that the Central Information Commissioner has already denied these reports. Few days back Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had said that the central government spent 1,880 crore rupees on Sonia Gandhi's foreign visits and medical treatment abroad.
