PMO, Child Rights Commission seek report on punishment at Vishwa Bharati

West Bengal Education Minister Mr.Bratya Basu has requested the Union Human Resources Development Minister Mr.Kapil Sibal to inquire into the incident and take punitive action against the warden of the hostel. The Prime Minister's Office has also sought a report from the HRD Ministry about the incident in the Vishwa Bharti University whose Chancellor is the Prime Minister. Our Kolkata correspondent reports that the University has already suspended Mrs.Uma Podder, the warden of the Karaby Girls' Hostel in Shantiniketan.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has issued a notice to the West Bengal Government for probing the matter of punishment to a 10 year old girl student to drink her own urine at a hostel in Vishwa Bharati University. Describing the incident as deplorable, the Commission has asked the state government to submit its report within ten days.
