PMJDY- universal access to banking facilities for every household<br/>

Prime Minister&apos;s Jan Dhan Yojana is with the objective of universal access to banking facilities for every household in the country.Launched by the Prime Minister in August 2014, the scheme was an instant success.Over 21 crore bank accounts are opened under the scheme nation wide and the total deposits in these accounts is about Rs. 37616 crore.The Union Territory of Puducherry has been in the forefront in implementing the scheme.Puducherry is among the states which has promoted the Prime Minister&apos;s Jan Dhan Yojana in its letter and spirit.The Union Territory has achieved almost 100% coverage for this innovative scheme that aims at financial inclusion.As all the 3.3 lakh households in Puducherry has a bank account the Territorial Administration has opted Direct Benefit Transfer for its welfare schemes and pensions. Majority of these accounts are linked to Aadhar making the benefit delivery system efficient and timely.More than 1,16,000 accounts are opened under Jan Dhan Yojana in Puducherry. These accounts together have a deposit corpus of Rs.25 crores.State Level Bankers Committee Convenor D Devaraj is very enthussiastic about the scheme.
