The government today asked the bank officials to speed up the process to cover all remaining households under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana at the earliest. It also asked them to make special efforts to address uncovered households in 33 districts where the percentage of coverage is less than 50 percent. The instructions were given during the Steering Committee Meet on Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, in New Delhi today. Talking to AIR, Joint Secretary of financial services, Anurag Jain said that more then 7.5 crore accounts have been opened so for but three crore households are still uncovered. He also said that these targeted households will be covered in systematically sweep mode. Banks were also asked to be ready for rolling out Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG,DBTL in all the districts from 1st January, 2015 and to take corrective action in the issues emanating in 54 districts, where DBTL is already underway. To make the country DBTL and DBT ready, Banks have been instructed to increase the seeding of Aadhaar number in the accounts using alternate channels like SMSs, ATMs and Internet.
