The Prime Minister has warned against blindly aping for the development model of the rich world. Dr. Manmohan Singh also called for promoting an environment for scientific advancement to make the country a world leader in creating intellectual property. He was inaugurating the 21st general meeting of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries in Hyderabad on Tuesday. And later he laid the foundation stone of the regional centre of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.Addressing a gathering of scientists, Dr. Singh said the Development model followed by Industrial countries has threatened the environment. Therefore, a more sustainable way should be found for developing societies without injuring environment.Dr. Singh said innovation and knowledge will be key factors for the progress of the country. He said scientific infrastructure in the country should be strengthened by drawing brightest minds to scientific research and creating institutes of higher standards. The Prime minister gave away the prestigious Ernesto Illy Trieste Science prize for this year to Brazilian scientist Goldenburg and India Science Prize to eminent statistician Dr C R Rao. He gave away prizes and Medals to 12 scientists in 8 fields of sciences.
