Prime minister Narendra Modi today urged to take pledge to honestly work to fight poverty and malnutrition in the country. Initiating a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement, Mr. Modi said the menace of corruption has adversely impacted in country's developmental journey and it has eaten our polity from inside . <br/> <br/>He said from 2017 to 2022, when India turns 75, we need to create the same spirit that existed from 1942 to 1947. Saying, in 1942, clarion call was Karenge Ya Marenge; the Prime minister said it is Karenge Aur Kar Ke Rahenge.<br/>Mr Modi said remembering special occasion like anniversary of Quit India movement gives people of India strength as a nation . <br/><br/>Prime minister said the country's freedom was not only about India but also it was a defining moment in bringing an end to colonialism in other parts of the world too. <br/><br/>He said the freedom struggle witnessed participation from a wide range of individuals over several years. The Prime Minister said the Quit India movement marked the rise of a new leadership and they supported Mahatma Gandhi during the movement. People followed the clarion call of Mahatma Gandhi of Do or Die.<br/><br/>Congress President Sonia Gandhi said during freedom struggle, Pandit Nehru spent several years in jail and many Congress workers died in jail . She said a lot of atrocities were committed on the protesters, but no one stepped back. She said today it seems there is a threat to country's secular, liberal and free thinking.<br/><br/>Former Prime Minister HD Deva Gowda opined that the sankalp se siddhi clarion call of prime minister should be supported by all of us. Tathagata Satpathy of BJD in his speech said for an united India, we should pledge on integration not division among us on this occasion. TMC leader Prof Sugata Bose said women played a crucial role everywhere during the freedom struggle. Leaders of all parties also spoke on the issue in the Lok Sabha. After paying tributes to great freedom fighters by members on the occasion, Speaker Mrs Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.<br/><br/>Earlier, the House paid tributes to the freedom fighters those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Speaker Mrs Sumitra Mahajan remembered the glorious contribution by many valiant freedom fighters.
