PM urges Merkel to resolve Eurozone issues in interest of developing countries;Dr.Singh leaves for New Delhi after Germany visit

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will leave for New Delhi after completing three-day state visit to Germany today. Before his departure from Berlin, Dr Singh will call on German President Mr Joachim Gauck at Bellevue Palace, the office of the German President.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by five senior cabinet colleagues arrived in Berlin on April 10th to take part in the second intergovernmental consultations with Germany.

India and Germany signed 10 agreements in different sectors at the end of consultation yesterday. While five MoUs were signed in the Renewable Energy, Science and Technology and the Railway sectors, five other MoUs were signed for co-operation in the fields of education and vocational training.

The pacts were signed in the presence of Dr. Singh and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, after the consultations. In addition, the Prime Minister and the German Chancellor discussed matters of mutual interest and also global issues. Both the countries agreed for early conclusion of the proposed India’s broadbased trade and investment pact with the European Union.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister urged the German Chancellor to take steps to resolve issues related to the Eurozone in the interests of developing countries.

He said multi-lateral trading systems will continue only when there is stability in the Euro zone.During the visit, Dr Manmohan Singh brought to close the year-long 'Days of India in Germany – a series of events organised to showcase India’s rapid strides in several fields.

Addressing the German and Indian Community on the occasion, the Prime Minister appealed to Germany and countries across the Europe to avail opportunities for investment in India.
