PM urges for informed & rational debate on global warming

The Prime Minister said that there is a need to have an informed and rational debate on what is in India's self-interest with regard to climate change. <br/><br/>Speaking at an award function in New Delhi on Monday, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that ecological devastation of what ever cause or origin will have far greater consequence in India than in the west and there is a need to recognise our own reality. <br/><br/>He said aid that media can play a significant role in this area. Dr Singh said that the humanity's approach to climate change and other global challenges has to be need based and not greed based as Gandhiji taught us. On the Copenhagen summit, the Prime Minister said that we are working hard to build global consensus on solutions that will address both the needs of the poor as well as our plant and humanity.<br/>
