Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said, the situation is likely to improve thereafter in the wake of its move to ban exports of the commodity.Mr. Pawar, however, ruled out any immediate plans to import onions to arrest prices even though small consignments arrived from Pakistan. Explaining the reason for the onion price rise, Mr. Pawar said, a substantial quantity of onion has been damaged because of the heavy rains in the Nashik area, the biggest producing centre. Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said that supply needs to be streamlined.Meanwhile, NAFED Managing Director Sanjeev Chopra told AIR that its outlets will sell Onions in Delhi between 35 to 40 rupees a kg.
