PM to unveil achievements of UPA government today

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will unveil the achievements of his Government and put across its future plans today to mark the first anniversary of second tenure of UPA regime.<br/><br/>According to government release , he will address a press conference at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. All India Radio will directly relay the Prime Minister's press conference from 10.25 am onwards on Indraprastha, Rajdhani Channel and other frequencies.<br/><br/>The UPA government achieved many milestones in the first year of its second term despite the global economic crisis and the challenge posed by naxalism and terrorism.<br/><br/>The country returned to higher growth path in the period and allocated massive funds for social and infrastructure development to ensure inclusive growth. Large scale reforms were also carried out in education and legal sectors. Enhancing its strategic partnership, India powerfully put forth its point of view on climate change and mobilizing global opinion to tackle the menace of terrorism, particularly emanating from its neighborhood.<br/><br/>It also inked several civil Nuclear agreements to meet the growing energy demand are some other areas that also hogged the limelight.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that high food inflation, naxal menace, Increasing food production and the passage of women reservation bill have emerged as major challenges for the government.<br/><br/>Accelerating the pace of inclusive growth remained the focus of the government policies with huge out lays for the development and health care of rural India, The dream project of unique identification has also been kicked-off under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani. India began its emergence on the global stage with developed countries following the formula by Dr.Mamohan Singh in dealing with the financial meltdown.<br/><br/>The relations with the United State, Russia and other major developed countries remained a higher pedestal. Some controversies that surfaced in the period include alleged corruption in the Medical Council of India, the sharp differences between the Sports ministry and Indian Olympic Association, phone-tapping and 2 G Spectrum issue.
