Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who is in New York, will have series of bilateral meetings with world leaders on Friday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. On the second day of his stay, Dr Singh will meet his Japanese counterpart Yoshihiko Noda, which could mark the resumption on talks for nuclear co-operation between the two countries. Official sources said India – Japan relationship have been in the upswing following elevation of the ties to the level of ‘Strategic and Global Partnership’ and pointed out that India is the largest recipient of the Official Development loan from Japan. During the talks, the two sides will try to finalize dates for Noda's visit to India. Dr Singh will also have talks with President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline project is likely to figure prominently in the interaction.. The deteriorating situation in the AFPAK region , drawdown of NATO-led foreign forces from Afghanistan, besides the upheaval in West Asia are issues that may be taken during the talks. Later during the day, Prime Minister will meet the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, where the two leaders will review bilateral relations. New Delhi has been assisting Sri Lanka in a big way in rehabilitating internally displaced Tamils and reconstruction of Northern areas. The Prime Minister will address the General Debate on Saturday, where in he will make a strong pitch for comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council to create an equitable system that is reflective of current realities.
