Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will hold a review meeting on the status of all the highway projects today. The meeting will discuss the issues related to awarding of operation and maintenance, engineering-procurement-construction and build-operate-transfer contracts . Prime Minister's Office has sought a report on the progress and also asked for a realistic target to award road projects this year. So far, the National Highways Authority of India has awarded only 900 km of projects against its target of 8,300 km, while the ministry has made little progress to bid out about 1,300 km of national highways under the NH development programme. NHAI has constructed at least 1,200 km, which is almost 40 per cent more in comparison to the corresponding period last year.
