PM to political parites: Make budget session of Parl fruitful

Prime minister Manmohan Singh has said that it is the obligation of all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament. Speaking to reports after the all party meeting convened this afternoon by Loksabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Dr Singh said he is hopeful that the budget session of Parliament begining tommorow will be fruitful.

He also appealed to all political parites to join hands to find solutions to the problems being faced by the nation. Dr. Singh said, constructive and productive debates can lead to agreed solutions.

Parliamentary Affairs minster Kamalnath said, the Government is ready for any type of enquiry on the allegations on the AugustaWestland VVIP Chopper deal. He said, the government wants a completely transparent and very incisive probe.

Mr. Kamalnath the issue is not just about corruption, it is an investigation being carried out overseas, and a slur on the image of the country. Mr. Kamalnath said, though total agreement in all issues is difficult in a democracy, broad consensus can be achieved on contentious issues.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Leader of the opposition in Loksabha and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj sought an apology from Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on his remarks on Hindu terror.

She said, the BJP also hoped the parliament would funtion smoothly to address important issues, including Helicopter deal, price rise and the beheading of Indian soildier by the Pakistan Army. Mrs. Swaraj also said, her party will consult NDA partners and decide within the next two days on the sort of enquiry to be demanded on the AugustaWestland Helicopter deal.

Home minsiter Sushil Kumar Shinde, accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamalnath held seperate talks with BJP leader Mrs. Sushma Swaraj after the all party meeting to resolve the stalemate on the Mr. Shinde's remark on Hindu terror.

Our correspondent reports that, the all Party meeting concluded by visible efforts from the Government and the Opposition parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament. Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was also among the leaders of major political parites who attended the Loksabha Speaker's all party meet.

JDU Leader Sharad Yadav, said the Parliament should be allowed to function so that important issues faced by the nation can be discussed. He also said important legislations including the land acquisition bill are also in the pipeline.
