Restoration of dialogue with all shades of opinion will be the focus of the discussion in today's meeting convened by the Prime Minister with leaders of various political parties from Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said in New Delhi, that government will seek the help of the political parties across the board to end the cycle of violence. The National Conference has been advocating restoration of autonomy to restore peace and order in the state while the BJP is against any change in the armed forces Special Powers Act. The State Congress leadership has also been championing for initiation of dialogue. The Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government are keen to restore dialogue which suffered a set back after a moderate Hurriyat leader was shot at in December 2008. Both the Centre and the state want peace and order to proceed before the dialogue process is launched. After the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram made offer of dialogue in Parliament most of the political parties have hailed the move. Mr. Chidambaram also asserted that it is important to win the hearts and minds of people. However, some political parties including the People's Conference want restoration of dignity to the institution of dialogue. The moderate Hurriyat conference appears to be in favour of dialogue. Centre was holding quite talks with moderate groups outside main stream politics which according to government contributed to the peace process till the end of 2008. AIR correspondent adds that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier convened an all party meeting in Srinagar to firm up government's strategy to deal with the situation. The Opposition PDP which abstained from that meeting is not participating in the talks.
