Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will meet an all-party delegation from Jammu and Kashmir led by State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday to discuss the current situation in the Kashmir Valley and ways to resolve it. During the meeting, from which opposition PDP and BJP have decided to stay away, the Prime Minister is expected to seek views of the political parties on ways to restore peace in Kashmir which has been witnessing a cycle of violence since last about two months. The meeting which is a follow up of an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in July in Srinagar will he held at the Prime Minister’s official 7-Race Course residence at 6 p.m. Srinagar meeting had decided to send an all-party delegation of J&K parties to Prime Minister to urge him to resume the peace process through internal and external dialogue. This is obviously a reference to the dialogue with the separatists and with Pakistan. The meeting had also asked for independent inquiries into the incidents of violence and firing by security forces. The main opposition parties in J&K State Peoples Democratic Party BJP have decided to boycott the meeting. However, J&K National Panthers party which had boycotted the meeting in Kashmir, has agreed to participate in today’s meeting with the Prime Minister. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, Ali Mohammed Sagar and Abdul Rahim Rather will represent the ruling National Conference while Saif-ud-din Soz will be leading the Congress delegation. BJP has decided to stay away from today’s meeting on the pretext that had the party got the invite from Prime Minister, it would have loved to participate in the meeting. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had called an all-party meeting on July 12 but opposition PDP had refused to attend it also. Its chief Mehbooba Mufti had then said the meeting should instead be called by the Prime Minister.
