PM to meet Japanese leaders today ahead of bilateral summit with Abe

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who reached Tokyo last evening will be meeting a host of Japanese leaders today in the run up to the bilateral summit. The summit level discussions between Dr Singh and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe are scheduled for tomorrow. Japan's Foreign Minister and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister will call on him later today. In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said that there is a vast scope for widening relations with Japan. Our Correspondent covering the Prime Minister's visit reports that Dr. Singh will address the Japanese business community today. She adds that New Delhi and Tokyo are likely to take up the Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement and enhancing co-operation in the energy sector at the top of the agenda tomorrow. Besides reviewing the overall Indo-Japan relationship, both Dr. Singh and Mr. Abe will discuss ways and means to give further impetus to their strategic and global partnership. Other issues related to widening co-operation in defence, infrastructure development, political exchanges, economic interaction and people-to-people ties will also figure in the talks.
