PM to meet Indonesian Prez in Jakarta today; Both countries to ink several pacts to strengthen ties

rime Minister Manmohan Singh today paid homage to departed soldiers at Kalibada Heroes cemetery in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. Later in the day, he is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhyono. Several bilateral agreements will be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit. A joint press statement will be issued in the evening. Our correspondent reports that the Prime Minister started his visit of Indonesia by paying homage to the departed soldiers at Kalibada Heroes cemetery. More than seven thousand people who are military casualties and veterans from the Indonesian war of Independence are buried here. It’s a very significant historic place in Jakarta. During the day there is an official welcoming ceremony hosted by the Indonesian President. There will be delegation level talks followed by signing of agreements and joint statements. It is expected that these agreements would further strengthen strategic relations and it will encourage trade and investment in both the countries. Meanwhile,an MoU has been signed between the Indian Council of World Affairs and the Indonesian Council of World Affairs on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s visit in the presence of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his Indonesian Counterpart Marty Natalegawa.
