Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh urged the media to collectively ensure that objectivity is promoted and sensationalism is curbed.

In a message on the occasion of National Press Day, Dr. Singh said, censorship is not answer for irresponsible journalism. He said, a free and fair media has been an essential pillar of the democracy.

Dr Singh added said since the days of freedom struggle, media has been instrumental in social change, informing readers of their rights and contributing to the nation-building process by spreading awareness.
