Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone of the Regional Centre of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Hyderabad today. He will arrive in Hyderabad this morning on a day-long visit. The Regional Centre will commence its operations from the next academic year. The state Government has alloted 209 acres of land to the institute in the premises of Hyderabad University. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 21st general meeting of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) in Hyderabad. He will also give away the India Science Prize to renowned statistician C. R. Rao and 2010 TWAS prizes and medals to other scientists. The prestigious Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize for this year will also be given away. Apart from a ministerial roundtable on scientific collaboration with Africa, deliberations of the TWAS will include State of Science in India, Agriculture, Food security and affects of climate change. About 350 scientists from 90 countries are taking part in the 4-day conference.
