The governemnt today emphasised the need for intense idigenious research and development in solar energy to establish India's leadership in this crucial area. Speaking ahead of the launch of the " National Solar Mission" by the Prime Minister in New Delhi tomorrow, the Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that 20 thousand Mega Watt of solar power are planned to be produced under the new mission. He laid the foundation stone for the institute which will provide more technical facilities in the research and development. The campus of the institute is on Gurgaon-Faridabad road in the outskirts of the national capital. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Deepak Gupta said that efforts of the solar energy centre are in line with the objectives of the National Solar Mission. Our correspondent adds that this mission is one of the important constitutents of the national action plan prepared to deal with the impact of climate change.<br/><br/>
