Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Make in India initiative today to make the country a manufacturing hub by attracting foreign companies to set up their manufacturing units.

In his Independence Day speech, Mr Modi had appealed to people the world over to come and manufacture in India and sell in any country of the world. Mr Modi had asserted that India has the skill, talent, discipline and determination.

Make in India will act as a first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances. Centre has already allowed 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment under automatic route in construction, operation and maintenance in rail infrastructure projects and increased FDI in Defence to 49 per cent.

AIR correspondent reports that a separate department of skill development has been set up to equip the working age population with the right kinds of skill.

Make in India will focus on job creation and skill enhancement in 25 key sectors such as automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles and tourism and hospitality.

It is aimed at identifying select domestic companies having leadership in innovation and new technology for turning them into global leaders and promoting green and advanced manufacturing.

A dedicated cell has been created to answer queries from business entities through a newly created web portal www.makeinindia.com
