The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will today inaugurate a special meeting of Chief Ministers on the National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Both Prime Minister and Home Minister P.Chidambaram will address the meeting on the shared responsibility of the Centre and the States in fighting terrorism.
Mr. Chidambaram had earlier this week, circulated the draft of the two Standard Operating Protocols for the NCTC to the States. He also tried to allay apprehensions of Chief Minister's who had expressed their concerns.
The Centre had also assured the Chief Ministers that the State governments would be taken into confidence before any operation is conducted in any state. The Union Home ministry has circulated the agenda papers for the meeting.
The Prime Minister had earlier said that, the Centre and the States are together in fighting terror. He had also hoped that consensus would be evolved with the States on the setting up of the NCTC.
The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Friday evening ahead of the NCTC meet. Later, speaking to media, she said setting up of the NCTC is against the principles of the federal structure.
