PM to inaugurate Maritime summit in April;Event to secure global investment in shipping

The first road-show in the run-up to the Maritime India Summit-2016 was held in Kolkata today. The first Maritime India Summit (MIS), a flagship initiative of the Union Ministry of Shipping, will be held at Mumbai from 14 to 16 April, 2016. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Summit. The Summit aims to bring all investors and stakeholders of the shipping industry together and explore potential business opportunities. <br/><br/>Abhishek Chandra, Deputy Secretary, Union Ministry of Shipping made a detailed presentation of MIS 2016 today and emphasised on the key enablers that will lead to the prosperity of shipping industry in India. <br/><br/>These include Make in India, Single Window System for Clearances, Ease of Doing Business, Financial Incentives, 100 percent FDI in the sector, e-governance, Government's increased focus on infrastructure development etc. Mr. Chandra said that all the 200 projects related to the major ports will be presented in a standard template in the event. <br/><br/>Manish Jain, Deputy Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust on this occasion applauded this unique initiative of the Union Ministry of Shipping and said, "Union Ministry of Shipping has taken up many new initiatives out of which 27 projects have been outlined for the Kolkata and Haldia ports. <br/><br/>SV K Reddy, Director, Inland Waterways Authority of India stated that the eight protocol waterways-routes through Bangladesh have improved connectivity with North-East India.<br/><br/>South Korea, the world leader in ship-building industry will be the partner country in MIS, while 30 other maritime nations will also participate in the event.
