Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first ever Maritime India Summit 2016 in Mumbai this morning. The summit will showcase vast maritime investment opportunities in various sectors. The Prime minister will also unveil the National Maritime Perspective Plan with an aim to attract 12 lakh crore rupees investments into the sector. The plan envisages creation of one crore job opportunities in the country. <br/><br/>In an effort to bring back India's past glory in Maritime Sector, one of its ancient marine centres, Mumbai is hosting the first ever Maritime Summit. The Summit is being held at a crucial juncture especially when the Indian Maritime Sector is buoyant with port-based development doubling its growth rate during past few years. The initiatives taken up by the Government to bring down the logistic costs are also posing amicable atmosphere for investments. <br/><br/><br/>With an aim to bring the maritime potentiality into utilisation at a maximum extent and infuse huge investments, these initiatives include providing incentives and tax exemptions for investments, according infrastructure status for ship building, allowing 100 percent FDI in port development projects, putting in place web based Port Community System and promoting online port business and bidding process for PPP projects. The ambitious Sagarmala plan to augment capacities of existing ones, promote port-led development and develop environment-friendly port activities and cluster activities near ports is expected to create huge employment generation. <br/><br/><br/>The three-day Maritime Summit will showcase these investment opportunities in the country, through its thematic sessions, on various areas of maritime sector like Sagarmala – Port Led development, Ship Industry, Skill Development through Maritime Education & Training, Inland Water Transportation and Opportunities in International Shipping & Maritime Financing Opportunities in Maritime States.<br/><br/> The Summit bringing together about 3000 representatives from 200 maritime industries from 41 countries and government officials and manufactures are coming together at the first ever Maritime India Summit that will be taking off this morning in Mumbai, one of India's ancient maritime centres.
