Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a function to celebrate the seventh Civil Services Day in New Delhi tomorrow. He will also present the `PM’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration’ for the year 2010-11.

According to an official release, four outstanding initiatives in three categories – individual, group and organization – have been selected for the award.

The award is being given for rendering selfless service to evacuate Indian Nationals amid Civil War in Libya. In the group category, the award will be given to Tripura for Village Health and Nutrition Day in Complete Convergence Mode and Jammu and Kashmir for conducting successful Panchayat Elections.

Besides, Participatory Scientific Watershed Management in Gujarat will receive the award in the organization category. The award includes a medal, scroll and a cash amount of one lakh rupees.

In case of a group, the total award money is five lakh rupees subject to a maximum of one lakh rupees per person. For an organization this is limited to five lakh rupees.

A number of books written by the civil servants during the last five years will also be displayed.

Our correspondent reports the day is observed by all Civil Services to rededicate and recommit themselves to the cause of the people.

It provides a unique opportunity for introspection as also working out future strategies to deal with the challenges being posed by the changing times. Seventh in a row, the day is being celebrated since 2006.
