PM to inaugurate Chief Ministers conference on internal security

Combating economic offences, particularly the issue of fake Indian currency notes will figure prominently in the internal security conference of State Chief Ministers being held in New Delhi tomorrow. It will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The conference will discuss among other things the reports of terror activities of some right wing groups and growing Maoist violence. The day-long conference will be attended by the State Chief Ministers apart from Police Chiefs to prepare an effective strategy to deal with Naxal menace and terrorist activities with a heavy hand. The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram will brief the Chief Ministers about the Centre's perception on internal security and talk about the measures to be adopted for dealing with them. Our correspondent reports that several key proposals are likely to be cleared in the meeting. They include – Unified Command for all Naxal-affected states, Retired Major Generals to be appointed as advisors, Unified Command to be headed by Chief Secretaries, Two crore rupees each for 400 police stations to improve facilities.
