PM to hold delegation level talks with Bangladeshi PM Hasina

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart Mrs Sheikh Hasina are to hold delegation level talks at Hyderabad House this evening. Our correspondent says that expanding security cooperation, transit and connectivity, water sharing and ways to promote trade and investment are high on the agenda of the talks between the two leaders. After the talks the two sides will sign five agreements including three anti terror and security related pacts.<br/><br/>These are agreements on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, transfer of sentenced persons and combating international terrorism, organised crime and illegal drug trafficking. An MOU on the cooperation in power including inter grid connectivity will also be inked besides signing of a cultural exchange programme. Earlier, speaking to media after a ceremonial welcome was accorded to her at the Forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhawan, Mrs Sheikh Hasina described India as a good neighbour. She said, said that peace and cooperation is necessary for ridding the region of poverty.<br/> <br/>The Bangladesh Prime Minister who arrived on Sunday night on a three day state visit to India called on the President, Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil. The External Affairs Minister, Mr S M Krishna and the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, the leader of the opposition and UPA chairperson called on the visiting dignitary. Mrs Sheikh Hasina will be conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for peace, development and disarmament tomorrow. She will visit Ajmer on Wednesday before going back to Dhaka.
