PM to express India's concerns of nuclear arsenal from falling into hands of terrorists at Nuclear Security Summit

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is expected to raise India's concerns at the Nuclear Security Summit beginning in Washington today, for strong action by individual countries and the international community to secure nuclear arsenal from falling into hands of terrorists. <br/><br/>In the two day summit at the initiative of US President Barack Obama, leaders from 47 other countries will deliberate on mechanisms to strengthen global initiatives for securing existing nuclear material and installations and to lock them from the reach of terrorist outfits. <br/><br/>The summit takes place, amidst increasing apprehensions about the possibility of nuclear arsenal finding its way into the hands of terrorists, especially in India's immediate neighborhood. <br/><br/>The Nuclear Security Summit will focus on the dangers posed by clandestine proliferation and illicit trafficking of nuclear material and the possibility of terrorists acquiring atomic material. <br/><br/>The National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao are expected to raise concerns regarding India's concerns about the possibility of terrorists gaining access to nuclear material in Pakistan. <br/><br/>Ahead of his visit, the Prime minister had emphasized the need for managing highest standards of security in the nuclear field to reinforce public faith in the benefit of atomic science.<br/>
