PM to discuss enhancing economic ties with Chinese President Hu Jintao

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is leaving on a five-day visit to China and Kazakhstan on Tuesday. On the first leg of his visit, he will arrive at Sanya in China to participate in the BRICS Summit.On the sidelines of the summit, he will hold talks with the Chinese President Hu Jintao and Presidents of Russia, Brazil and South Africa. In his meeting with the Chinese president intensification of economic ties and diversification of relations between the two countries will be the focus of discussions. Issues of mutual interest and role of emerging economies in the global economic order and developments in Libya are also expected to come up during the bilateral meetings.The BRICS Summit will discuss international economic situation, millennium development goals, multipolarity, Doha round of talks and several other developmental issues. It is for the first time that South Africa is participating in the summit.AIR correspondent reports that on the second leg of his visit Dr. Singh will have bilateral summit with the President of Kazakhstan in Astana.The BRICS fundamentally remains an economic grouping of emerging economies and the participation of South Africa promises to serve an effective gateway for the groupings, trade and investments in the resource rich African nations.Most of the countries in the BRICS have a common strategy on dealing with the issues like climate change, agriculture subsidies and dealing with development issues and the present round of consultations will take the partnership to new heights. Dr. Singh's visit to Kazakhstan is part of India's streatgy to ensure energy demand in the country.Prime Minister will be visiting Kazakhstan on the second leg of his two-nation five-day tour. He will have bilateral talks with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his counter part Karim Massimov in Astana on India-Kazakhstan ties. AIR correspondent reports that discussions between Prime Minister Singh and President Nazarbayev, will be followed by delegation-level talks between both the countries. This will be first visit of Dr. Singh to Kazakhstan and the second to a Central Asian country. He will be first foreign dignitary visiting Astana after victory of President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the elections on 3rd of this month. A warm and close relationship between both the countries can be gauged from this fact that Kazak President has visited New Delhi three times in the years of 1992, 1996 and 2009. He was the chief guest at Republic Day functions in 2009 at New Delhi. An official spokesperson in New Delhi said that some agreements are likely to be signed and that the Prime Minister's visit to Kazakhstan would place strategic relations between the two countries on a firm footing.
