PM to chair All party meet to evolve consensus on ways to tackle Naxal menace

All Political parties are meeting in New Delhi this evening to chalk out a strategy to deal with the Naxal violence that has spread over nine states.

The meeting convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh takes place in the backdrop of the naxal attack on a Congress rally last month in Chattisgarh killing 30 people. Dr. Singh had proposed the all party meet while addressing at the Chief ministers Conference on internal security held in New Delhi last week.

Prime Minister wanted the government's two-pronged anti-Maoist strategy of sustained operations and addressing development issues to be strengthened. He also asked the states and the Centre to join hands to tackle the problems of internal security.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will also address the All party meeting taking place at the Prime minister's residence.

Meanwhile, Tribal Affairs minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo expressed hope that some solution on addresing the naxal issue will emerge in the All party meet.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi Mr. Deo said the coming together of politial parties have given the right indication towards adressing the concerns of Tribals. He said, the development path is the way forward and the Naxal menace cannot be seen only as a law and order problem.

Mr. Deo was speaking after launching the new website of his ministry, www.tribal.nic.in and release of a brochure on UPA-2 achievements on socio-economic development of Scheduled Tribes and Forest Dwellers. He said, the UPA goverment had taken several land mark measures, policy and legal initiatives to empower the Tribal population.
