Successfully steering the country out of the global economic crises, return to higher growth rate, massive allocation of funds for social and infrastructure development, large scale reforms in education and legal sectors are the high points of the first year of the second tenure of the UPA government. Articulating powerfully India's point of view on climate change on the international stage, mobilising global opinion to tackle the menace of terrorism, improving relations with its neighbours and signing of several civil Nuclear Deals to meet the growing energy demand are some other areas that also hogged the limelight.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that high food inflation, naxal menace, passage of women reservation bill have emerged as major challenges and the goods and services tax is yet to be introduced. The alliance gave a stable government to the country with the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh leading from the front to ensure inclusive development, the dream project of unique identification has also been kicked-off under the leadership of internationally renowned IT expert Nandan Nilekani. Some controversies also surfaced in the periodwhich include alleged corruption in the Medical Council of India, the sharp differences between the Sports ministry and Indian Olympic Association, phone-tapping controversy and 2G spectrum issues.
