PM terms poverty as biggest challenge for environment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed poverty as the biggest challenge for environment. Speaking at International Conference on Rule of Law for Supporting the 2030 Development Agenda in New Delhi this evening, Mr Modi said, eradication of poverty is one of the fundamental goals of Indian government. <br/><br/>Saying that sustainable development is responsibility of the world, Mr. Modi exuded confidence that it can be achieved collectively. He said, India always pray for welfare, peace, fulfillment and sustainability of all and at all places and for all times. He said, anything which is not sustainable cannot be called development. <br/><br/>Invoking Mahatma Gandhi, Mr. Modi said, much before debate on sustainable development began Mahatma Gandhi said people must act as trustees and use natural resources wisely. The Prime Minister said it is the moral responsibility of everyone to ensure healthy planet for future generations. He said India wants to ensure a conducive environment for 1.25 billion Indians to develop and prosper.<br/><br/>Mr. Modi said in Indian culture, development means '????? ?????, ????? ?????', '????? ?????? ??????' and "????? ??????? ?????? ??????'. He said this cannot happen unless the development process is inclusive and sustainable. <br/><br/>In his address Finance Minister Arun Jaitely said half percent cases on service tax will contribute to Swach Bharat Abhiyan and clean Ganga campaign. <br/><br/>Addressing the conference Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar said government is revising the rules of waste management. <br/><br/>Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur and Chairperson of National Green Tribunal Justice Sawatantar Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
