PM takes stock of economic situation

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Wednesday reviewed the economic situation of the country. Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman, C Rangarajan were present on the occasion. Both Mr. Ahluwalia and Dr Rangarajan met the Prime Minister separately and briefed him about the economic scenario.

Dr. Singh took charge of the Finance portfolio on Tuesday following the resignation of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, who is contesting the July 19th Presidential election as the UPA-II nominee.

Prime Minister is likely to meet senior officials in the Finance Ministry including Finance Secretary R S Gujral, Economic Affairs Secretary R Gopalan, Financial Services Secretary D K Mittal and Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu.
