PM stresses need for early adoption of comprehensive convention on international terrorism

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has highlighted the serious threat posed by international terrorism to the global community and called for working together for early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism presently under discussion in the United Nations. Dr. Manmohan Singh had separate meetings with President of Slovenia, Prime Ministers of Finland, Greece and Norway. He discussed the issue of climate change with them and referred to the developmental challenges confronting India and the efforts being undertaken to contribute to global action on climate change. The Prime Minister also highlighted that the recent announcement by India to reduce the emissions intensity by 20-25% by 2020 in comparison to the 2005 levels. He asserted that it is a manifestation of the seriousness with which India wants to contribute to the global action on climate change. PM offered to work with like-minded countries for a positive outcome at the next meeting on climate change in Mexico. The foreign dignitaries are in New Delhi to participate in the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, being organized by the TERI from today.<br/><br/>Prime Minister offered to enhance economic cooperation with all the countries concerned by creating a credible environment favourable to both domestic and foreign investors, particularly in the infrastructure and communication sectors.<br/><br/>With Slovenia, PM offered to explore shipping links and strengthen Indian participation in the International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE).<br/><br/>Dr Singh suggested to the Prime Minister of Greece that the bilateral trade could soon reach One Billion US Dollars and proposed further cooperation in areas such as shipping, renewable energy, IT and tourism. He also hailed that companies from Finland such as Nokia have created job opportunities for young people in India, helping to empower them through appropriate training besides the investments from Norway in the telecom.
