PM, Sonia confident of Govt surviving cut motion in LS

Both the government and the opposition are bracing up on the issue of cut motions in Lok Sabha against the duty hike on petroleum products and fertilizers prices. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi have expressed confidence that the UPA government will defeat the cut motions. Replying to a question on the issue on the sidelines of a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Prime Minister said that they are as confident as possible. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi who was present on the occasion, also echoed the same sentiment.<br/> <br/>In reply to a question on whether the ruling coalition will take the help from non-UPA parties, Dr. Singh talked about seeking support of right thinking people. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the 207 member Congress not leaving anything to chance, has issued whip to its members . The Trinamul Congress and DMK have issued whips. <br/><br/>The 21 member BSP has not said anything so far on its strategy on the cut motions. The 13 party non-UPA, non-NDA grouping including the Left has said that they will be giving separate notices for cut motions. <br/><br/>These parties have also called for a Bharat Bandh tomorrow. BJP has said it will demand a division of votes on the cut motions to be moved in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.
