PM says summit with Pacific island nations will strengthen ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed optimism about the upcoming Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) and said it will strengthen India's bond with the Pacific island nations. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he welcome all the leaders and delegates who are coming to India for the FIPIC summit.<br/><br/>President Pranab Mukherjee will receive the Heads of State and Government participating in Summit at Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow.<br/><br/>India is hosting the 2nd Forum for FIPIC Summit on 21st of this month at Jaipur with an aim to chart out a new course in relationship with the countries of Pacific region. At the Summit, India will also seek to expand its footprint in the strategically-important South Pacific region by pushing for deeper engagement with these nations in a range of key areas including trade and investment. India will push for greater cooperation with the island nations in sectors like oil and natural gas, mining, IT, healthcare, fishing and marine research.<br/>
