PM says, strong & prosperous India is better for Bhutan's prosperity

India has said that Prime Minister`s Bhutan visit was completely successful and satisfactory. Talking to media persons today in Thimphu the Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that a separate joint statement on the outcome of the talks will be issued later on today.

She said the visit has reinforced and strengthen the bilateral relations of two countries. Terming Bhutan as friendliest country the Minister said that in spite of short visit the Prime Minister met all three wings of the country including Legislative, Executive and Judiciary.

She said during his talks with Bhutanese leadership the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to fulfill the all commitments done by the previous government at Delhi.

She said Bhutan Prime Minister received the visiting Narendra Modi and Paro international airport breaking all norms. She said India particularly Prime Minister is deeply touched with friendly gesture and welcome and respect extended by the Bhutanese leadership to him and citizens welcome rendered to him from Paro to Thimphu.

Earlier Addressing joint sitting of Bhutan Parliament the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that strong and prosperous India can perform its responsibilities of as neighbor to its neighbors more effectively.

He said that India`s strength and prosperity will even be in favour of the SAARC countries and their interests will be protected and mutual cooperation will be intensified. He said a week India cannot perform neighboring responsibility properly.

Expressing his gratitude towards leaders of SAARC Countries for attending his swearing in ceremony at New Delhi on his invitation he said India and Bhutan relation is not only diplomatic relation but based on common rich historical and cultural traditions of both the countries.

Mr. Modi suggested that a annual sports event should be organized among all North Eastern Himalayan states of India and Bhutan to expand people to people contact between both the countries. He said expansion of education and people to people contacts are more effective to strengthen the relationships. He said India has also decided to set up a centre for Himalayan Study to study the lives in Himalayan region and climate change and it will be beneficial for the Bhutan also.

AIR correspondent covering the Prime Minister visit reports that the highlighting the growth of India Bhutan cooperation in the field of Hydropower projects Mr. Modi said initiatives of both the countries in the field as their contribution to save the humanity from the bad impacts of the climate change. Mr. Modi also laid the Foundation Stone of the 600 MW Kholongchu Hydropower Project this mirning. Function was organised at the court yard of the Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in New Delhi this evening after completing the Bhutan Visit.
