The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that he had not authorised anyone to purchase any votes during the trust vote in 2008. Speaking at India Today conclave in New Delhi today, he said that he was not certainly involved in any such things. The PM's statement came after cash-for-votes controversy rocked Parliament. Dr Singh added those who have been named in the Wikileaks have already expressed their doubts over their veracity. He said that his comments on coalition compulsion should not in anyway convey the impression that he would not follow strictly the Constitution.Referring to the initiatives taken by the government for inclusive growth, Dr Singh asserted that land mark legislations were enacted that provide citizens right to information, education and work. For bridging the divide, Dr Singh said programmes like Bharat Nirman, National Rural Health Mission and affirmative action for minorities are some of the important initiatives. On the empowerment of women, the Prime Minister said that the major challenge is to give women political work and work out and implement effective strategies for gender equality. He announced that the government is coming out with a blue print for a skill revolution in the country in next two months. He said every one from center to state governments, private sector and other stake holders have to contribute to make this revolution a success. Prime Minister said that tragic nuclear incidents in Japan in the aftermath of the tsunami and earthquake should make us revisit issues of nuclear safety and learn lessons from these experiences. Dr. Singh said that he has ordered a through review of the atomic plants and it will be carried by Department of Atomic Energy.The Prime Minister said that problems such as piracy require cooperative solutions by several states, both to prevent piracy on the high seas and to eliminate the causes which make it possible. He commended the Indian Navy for the task in foiling the attempts of piracy in the Arabian Sea.Dr. Singh elaborated that New Delhi has a major stake in the peaceful and orderly evolution of West Asia and North Africa as over 6 million Indians work there. The Prime Minister urged the major powers to work together to address the major economic and political challenges facing the world. He said it includes dealing with non state actors and cooperation in countering cross boarder terrorism. Dr. Singh asserted India is today fully and meaningfully participating in the international economic institutions including G-20. Strongly advocated for democratization of United National Security Council, he said India seeks a similar place in handling of political, security and other issues at international level. The Prime Minister asserted that India can contribute to the world's recovery from the economic melt down and have the potential to become a pole of political stability in an uncertain world. He added that for this, some innovation and flexibility in approach is needed and called for dealing with squarely with menace of corruption and reform and improve the governance.
