PM says govt is ready for discussion on any issue in Parliament

The Prime Minister today appealed to the opposition to allow smooth functioning of Parliament and said the government is ready for discussion on any issue.Making a statement in the Lok Sabha on the arrest and release of social activist Anna Hazare, Dr Manmohan Singh said the government does not seek confrontation with any section of the society.The prime minister said that the Delhi police took this step to maintain peace and tranquility in the city. He, however, said this will not be repeated today or in the future.Dr Singh said the path Anna Hazare has chosen to impose his draft Bill upon Parliament is totally misconceived and fraught with grave consequences for our parliamentary democracy. He made it clear the government has initiated many measures to fight corruption.On the events of on Tuesday, Dr Singh said a functional democracy must allow multiple voices be heard. He, however, said differences of opinion must be resolved through dialogue and consensus.
