The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh asserted that the Congress led UPA government will complete its full five year term. Dr. Singh was speaking to newsmen on board the special aircraft from Frankfurt to New Delhi on Tuesday. He said the opposition would not succeed in its attempt to force early election. Prime Minister also criticised certain “forces” of trying to destabilise polity.
On the reported rift between senior Ministers, Dr. Singh said it was a creation of the media. He said there were no dissension or division in the Union Cabinet, which is working cohesively. Replying to a question, he said that all ministers including Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and Mr. P. Chidambaram enjoyed his full confidence. He made it clear that he was not thinking about Cabinet expansion.
Expressing concern over high inflation, the Prime Minister said that it was a global phenomenon and the Government is doing its best to contain it.
Referring to the economic slowdown in different countries, Dr. Singh said the high savings and investment rate will ensure that India will maintain a high growth momentum.
The Prime Minister said there was growing support for India's inclusion as permanent member in the UN Security Council.
On Libya, the Prime Minister said despite claims by the western forces, there are signs of a civil war like situation prevailing in that country.
When asked on the border problems with China, Dr. Singh said he had taken up the matter with the President and Prime Minister of the country. He said they had assured him that nothing will be done that is detrimental to New Delhi's interest.
Dr. Manmohan Singh returned home late on Tuesday evening, after a 5 day visit to New York, where he participated in the 66th UN General assembly session.
